Last weekend, KV Tervuren-Duisburg was finally able to hold the official opening of its new facilities at Berg van Termunt. Master of ceremony at the opening was mayor and club fan Marc Charlier. Other politicians were also to be seen. After all, Tervuren ultimately paid over €3 million due to Covid and other inflation drivers, Tervuren+ learned.
Other clubs in the commune, Moorsel and Vossem, are not forgotten. “Investments have started at the other clubs,” Marc (r.) explains to a somewhat sceptical Vossem Greunsjotters’ fan, noting that renewal of the Moorsel field took place in 2020 and a renewed €500k field will come in Vossem.
And Moorsel and Vossem do not have to fear being merged with KVTD against their will, as threatened ten years ago by a controversial former mayor. “You can’t force things like that if it doesn’t come from the clubs themselves,” says Marc.
The opening puts an end to a series of setbacks. In January, arsonists struck at the brand new kitchens at Berg van Termunt — behind the Jazz Fountain. The arsonists left police clueless despite DNA samples. That forced the club to postpone the opening planned for January. To top it all off, this season in Belgium, or Flanders, is one of excessive and endless rainfall, and even snow at the start of this year. All that made the field unplayable for a while.
