Moorsel fights alone to keep buses

With rumors doing the rounds for months, Moorsel will now have to trek to Tervuren to hear the bad news about its buses. That’s on 21 February at a so-called ‘information’ evening in the town hall.

Actiecomité Bussen Moorsel already fears the worst from January 2025. It expects Flanders public bus company De Lijn to formally announce an end to the three bus lines (316, 318, 616) that serve Moorsel. The loss of bus 616 alone terminates the popular service to the airport from Leuven, via Moorsel, which started in 2007.

Rubbing salt into the injury, Moorsel’s efforts to have a meeting in the local parish hall were met with a njet. Moorsel residents are now pondering whether or not to use the existing but arduous bus service to Tervuren to hear the bad news on 21 February. Could a bus be provided for Moorsel’s car-less for the meeting, with De Lijn paying, they ask.

“Outside rush hours, no buses would pass through the village. This is simply unacceptable,” says Alain Margerin from Actiecomité Bussen Moorsel, announcing an online petition.

The Actiecomité wants at least one bus line that connects Brussels with Leuven station every half hour via Moorsel and Gasthuisberg.
